Joanna Chiu is a foreign correspondent and founder of NüVoices ( https://nuvoices.com/), an editorial collective that promotes the diverse creative work of women. She has reported for leading international outlets including AFP, DPA, The Economist, Quartz, The Atlantic, South China Morning Post and The Associated Press.
Joanna has written extensively on women's rights issues in particular and has closely covered the rise of the #MeToo movement in China. She recently wrote a piece about"sexpat" journalists in Asia for Foreign Policy which sparked worldwide discussion about how media organisations can address sexual assault and harassment incidents when they occur in overseas bureaus at a distance from company headquarters.
Before working as a reporter, Joanna was a sex-ed workshop presenter at Canadian high schools as part of the Vancouver Coastal Health authority. She is now working on blending her expertise in sexual health and consent education with her experience in journalism to help newsrooms promote safer workplaces for all employees and contract workers.
